Zen Beyond Borders is an international group of meditation practitioners in the Dogen Sangha lineage. We meet online via Jitsi on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (GMT / BST) for 30 minutes of Zazen (seated meditation) and a short discussion about the practice.
The name Dogen Sangha signifies that we are a sangha (a group or association of Zazen practitioners) who follow the teachings of Zen Master Dogen, a 13th century Buddhist monk and founder of the Soto school of Buddhism.
Dogen Sangha was established in Japan in 1987 by Gudo Wafu Nishijima Roshi and five of his students as a group separate from the Soto School, with the aim of spreading the practice of Zazen and the philosophy of Dogen inside and outside Japan.
We follow the teachings of Dogen as introduced by Mike and Yoko Luetchford through the group they established in Bristol in 1999. Our teacher Keith took the precepts from Mike in 2002 and was acknowledged as part of his dharma lineage in 2013.
